Track star or family runabout? The Xiaomi YU7 GT delivers the perfect balance. Clocking a lap time of 7:22.755, it has smashed the SUV lap record by 14 seconds, earning the title of the fastest SUV ever on the Nürburgring. Just like the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra, this model rolls off the production line with genuine track-ready performance. Interestingly, it adopts the "GT" badge instead of "Ultra". So what exactly does GT stand for?

GT is short for Grand Tourer. The term originated from the large carriage compartments used for long-distance travel in early Europe. After the rise of automobiles, GT came to represent high-performance vehicles built for both long-haul cruising and exceptional ride comfort.

On the racetrack, GT has long been synonymous with high-powered sports cars, traditionally featuring a two-door, four-seat layout. Classic examples include the discontinued Ferrari 456 GT, Porsche 928 GTS, as well as the Maserati GT, Bentley Continental GT and Aston Martin DB11. As automotive design evolved, the two-door configuration is no longer a strict rule for GT models. The BMW 5 Series GT, for instance, is a four-door liftback GT that prioritizes long-distance comfort and practical interior space.

Let's turn back to the Nürburgring's fastest SUV - the Xiaomi YU7 GT. Though categorized as an SUV, its impressive track performance paired with the GT badge highlights its dual strengths: outstanding performance and superior comfort. In the new energy era, electric motors deliver instant torque, making quad-digit horsepower increasingly accessible. The Xiaomi YU7 GT follows this trend, boasting a maximum output of 1,003 horsepower, a 0-100 km/h acceleration of 2.92 seconds and a top speed of 300 km/h. Its performance is a significant upgrade over the standard YU7 Max.

While both models feature a dual-motor setup, the front motor of the YU7 GT is upgraded to 288 kW, and it is fitted with the high-performance V8s EVO rear motor producing 450 kW. It achieves a CLTC range of 705 km and supports a 5.2C fast charging rate. Compared with the tri-motor Xiaomi SU7 Ultra, the YU7 GT is tuned to be less extreme. This proves the two models target different user groups, yet both stay firmly focused on performance.

Vehicles in this segment generally start at over $73,750, while the YU7 GT is priced below $59,000, creating a clear price advantage. It also comes with a comprehensive premium package: staggered tires (265mm front / 295mm rear), ceramic ventilated brake discs, red seat belts, embroidered GT logos on seats and carbon fiber trim, fully embodying its GT identity.

Notably, it is equipped with the all-new Master Edition Jiaolong Chassis, paired with dual-valve CDC adaptive dampers, closed dual-chamber air suspension and an eLSD electronic limited-slip differential. Beyond track capabilities, it boasts a full-size SUV body: dimensions of 5015mm × 2007mm × 1597mm with a wheelbase of 3000mm. Rear headroom is vastly improved compared to the SU7.

Ride comfort is also fully optimized: it adds full-seat massage and rear seat ventilation over the YU7 Max. What's more, front zero-gravity seats and an in-car refrigerator are offered as limited-time free upgrades.

Overall, the Xiaomi YU7 GT excels both on the racetrack and for daily family use. Its Nürburgring lap time speaks for its raw power. While track cars are usually heavily modified, we will have to wait for real-world tests to experience its daily driving pleasure.
